Divert your calls on BT

Last checked: 18 October 2026

How do I divert calls on a BT landline?

From your BT home phone, dial *61* then your Hold The Fort number then # to divert calls you don't answer within 15 seconds. Dial *67* the same way for calls when you're on the phone. BT charges for the diverted part of each call unless your call package covers it.

Everything on this page comes from BT's own help pages, checked on 18 October 2026.

What should I check before I start?

  • BT home phone: Call Diversion is included with Digital Voice and Home Phone Standard. You need a phone set to tone dialling.
  • BT Business line: BT says call diversion "is an added feature on our phone lines", so you'd need to buy it from BT first.
  • What it costs: BT charges for the diverted part of each call, plus its standard call set-up fee, at the rate you'd pay outside your inclusive minutes. If your call package covers it, it's included. BT's standard rate to UK home phones and mobiles is 31.05p a minute.
  • BT home phones can divert calls you don't answer and calls when you're on the phone. There's no BT divert for "can't be reached".

Set up the diverts (from the home phone you want to divert)

On a Digital Voice handset you can also use the menu: Calling Features, Call Diversion, Set Up, enter the number, Set Up.
