FAQ

What is an AI phone answering service?

Hold The Fort is an AI that answers your phone when you can't. It tells every caller it's an AI assistant, takes their name, number and what they need, and saves the message for you. It's made by Capstone Software Ltd, a UK company based in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

Is it any good for tradesmen?

Yes, it's built for trades first: builders, roofers, plumbers, electricians, plasterers, joiners and heating engineers. Anyone whose hands are full when the phone goes. It also suits any business that misses calls while with a customer or out on a job, such as locksmiths, cleaners and garages.

What does it ask people who ring me?

It asks for the caller's name, the best number to ring them back on, and what it's about. It also asks when suits them for a call back and how urgent it is. So when you come to ring back, you know who it was and what they wanted.

Can it book jobs in for me?

No. It takes the job request but never tells a caller a job is booked. If a caller asks for a day or time, it's noted as requested, not confirmed. You look at the message, decide what goes in your diary, and ring the customer back to agree it.

Can I use it on my own number now?

Not yet. Hold The Fort isn't open for your own number yet. Leave your email on this page and we'll write to you when you can. Until then, this page explains how it works, what it asks callers, and how the divert will work on your network.

Will it text me when someone rings?

Yes. When someone leaves a message, we text the mobile number saved on your line. You can also read every message in the app, with the caller's name, the best number to ring back on, what it's about and how urgent it is. So you know who rang and can ring them back when you're free.

Where do I see my messages?

Every message is saved in your Hold The Fort app. It shows the caller's name, the best number to ring back on, what it's about, when suits them and how urgent it is. When someone leaves a message, we also text the mobile number saved on your line, so you know to look.

How do I get help if I'm stuck?

Email sales@capstonesoftware.co.uk and someone from the Capstone team will get back to you. Tell us your business name and what's happening, and we'll take it from there. For quick questions, the Hold The Fort assistant on this page answers from the same facts as this help page.

Do callers know it's not a real person?

What does it say when it answers my phone?

It names your business, says it's an AI assistant and that calls are recorded, then asks how it can help. For example: "Hello, you're through to [your business]. I'm [assistant's name], an AI assistant, and calls are recorded so we can help you properly. How can I help?"
